   Have not purchased this product. Compensated compasses have a North-South screw and an East-Westscrew. Usually when the slots in the screws are horizontal the compensation is minimum. That is whatone would wish as a hiker or a paddled or rowed boat user. Make sure there no nearby magnetic metalsor direct electric currents. Powered boats and motor vehicles are likely to contain steel or other magnetic metals or electric currents that will affect a compass. In those cases the compensation screws need to be adjusted. First head the vehicle or boat North and adjust (slowly) the N/S screw until the compass reads North. Then head East and adjust the E/W screw until the compass reads East. Then head South and adjust N/S to remove HALF the error. Then West to adjust E/W to remove HALF the error. This can be repeated each time removing half the error. There is a some interaction between the N/S and E/W adjustments. Don’t expect to remove all of the errors. Some compasses do not have strong enough compensation for land vehicles but will work in some boats.
