What we do

Our Approach

Our approach is fully inclusive
Everyone is welcome. Any instrument, any ability. Anyone who wants to play music or sing will find a place in the WTW Jazz Workshop.
We believe that playing music should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay. We do not charge anyone to play with us. We are able
to do this because everyone involved in the running of our Workshop does so on a voluntary basis (no-one gets paid) and because we have a long-term
relationship with Hargrave Hall where we are able to run our Workshop free of charge.

Our Workshop has a very diverse membership. It is also very democratic with everyone involved in decision-making.

We run a community music project in the heart of Archway

We are a resource for the local community. We have a high quality band that is available as a community service to schools, charities and other community
groups.

We have long-standing links with a number of local community groups, including churches and pensioners’ groups, and we regularly perform at their
events.

Members of the local community often pop in to our sessions to listen or to play with us.

We help people to develop as musicians

There is a strong educational element to what we do. Although we do notprovide individual tuition on instruments, we help people to develop as
musicians by offering opportunities
● to play alongside others In our Workshop, experienced musicians support newer players
● to perform
● to play different styles of music
We think this makes it more interesting for our audiences too!

We run on a not-for-profit basis

We have no pricing structure, so our performances are essentially free, as a
community service. Contributions to our upkeep, however, are welcome and
much appreciated.
Any donations that we receive are used to pay for our equipment and music.

Our membership is entirely voluntary

We keep in mind that our resource is for the local community and to have fun with servicing schools, charities and other community groups at little or no cost. We have long-standing links with a number of local community groups, including churches and pensioners’ groups, and we regularly perform at their events. As well as performing for the local community, we have an open-door approach to rehearsals. Members of the local community often pop in to listen or to play with us.
